BSNL to Launch VoWi-Fi Service PAN-India Soon

bsnl to launch vowifi service pan india

At present, only Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel offer their customers VoWi-Fi (voice over Wi-Fi) service PAN-India. While Vodafone Idea (Vi) also offers VoWi-Fi or Wi-Fi calling service to its customers, it is restricted to select circles. But very soon, BSNL (Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited), a state-run Indian telecom operator, is planning to launch Wi-Fi calling services for its customers. This will likely happen once 4G is available in most parts. BSNL has confirmed that it will complete the 1 lakh 4G sites rollout target by June 2025. Post that the telco also plans to upgrade some sites to 5G.

Wi-Fi calling services will be a natural extension to the 4G that BSNL is offering. Also, BSNL said that VoLTE services will be activated by default for 4G consumers. So there’s no USSD code you need to enter to activate it manually. In case VoLTE services have not been activated for you, just contact BSNL to resolve that issue for you.

Wi-Fi calling support is in almost every new phone today. It allows consumers to have a better experience in areas/zones where there is no deep network coverage. This is something Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel have been offering for a long time now. But given that BSNL didn’t have 4G so far, it wasn’t possible for the telco to deliver VoWi-Fi.
