Vodafone India, second largest operator in the country has launched new 2G unlimited data pack for Rs 7. The 2G data pack offer unlimited access for 1 hour at a cost of Rs 7. The move follows Airtel launch of ‘Cyber Cafe’ data packs, offering Unlimited data for 1 hour at Rs 5. Vodafone and Airtel continues their tradition of copying each other's plans. Like with other plans, Idea may also join similar plan mimicking Vodafone and Airtel.

The pack can be subscribed through USSD by dialing *444*7# or  through E-TOP. The confirmation of recharge will be received within 15 mins and the benefit will be credited into account within 4 hours. Customers can check available mins balance of the pack by dialing *111*6#. The unlimited data pack benefits are only applicable when connected to Vodafone network. Customer can activate the data pack multiple times after exhausting the available data balance.

Given the maximum speed of 2G EDGE data is 236kbps, one could download at most 100MB data within 1 hour time. However, in a real world scenario speed should be around 150kbps and in an hour user can use about 50MB. Existing 2G data packs in this price range(Rs 5-7) provide around 35MB of data with 1 days validity. This leaves no scope for an 2G one hour unlimited data pack.

Vodafone India recently introduced youth focused ‘U’ packs for their existing and new prepaid customers across all the circles. ‘U’ packs offer 3G/4G Internet, lower call rates to friends, unlimited music and video contents from Vodafone Music & lots more. With this new ‘U’ packs, Vodafone wants to establish them as Youth oriented operator as a part to push bundle like prepaid offerings & offer premium quality to win Youth hearts.
