Telefonica Germany Expands Network with 1,400 Mobile Sites in Q3 2024

Telefonica Germany (O2 Telefonica) announced that it has expanded 1,400 mobile network sites between July and September 2024 and has conducted improvement works at 4,800 sites to enhance 5G network coverage, increase data speeds, and improve network performance. Since the beginning of the year, O2 Telefonica has built 700 new mobile sites to close radio gaps and optimise the network, the operator said.

Sustainable Energy Solutions

Telefonica Germany also reported that in Sindlbach, Bavaria, it has built an energy-self-sufficient tower powered by photovoltaic systems and biomethanol fuel cells. Additionally, 1,900 new 5G transmitters have been put into operation since the beginning of the year, extending 5G coverage to 96 percent of the population.

New generations of smartphones and applications, such as AI tools, place ever higher demands on mobile connectivity. With the expansion of our 5G and 4G networks, we ensure that our customers are always well connected and can exploit the full potential of digital possibilities,” explains the Director of Networks at O2 Telefonica.

Major City Upgrades and Rural Benefits

Major cities such as Berlin, Hamburg, Munich, and Frankfurt saw upgrades on the 3.6 GHz spectrum, while rural areas also benefited from faster 5G and 4G connectivity, the operator noted.
