Telefonica Germany (O2 Telefonica) announced that it has expanded 1,400 mobile network sites between July and September 2024 and has conducted improvement works at 4,800 sites to enhance 5G network coverage, increase data speeds, and improve network performance. Since the beginning of the year, O2 Telefonica has built 700 new mobile sites to close radio gaps and optimise the network, the operator said.

Sustainable Energy Solutions
Telefonica Germany also reported that in Sindlbach, Bavaria, it has built an energy-self-sufficient tower powered by photovoltaic systems and biomethanol fuel cells. Additionally, 1,900 new 5G transmitters have been put into operation since the beginning of the year, extending 5G coverage to 96 percent of the population.

Major City Upgrades and Rural Benefits
Major cities such as Berlin, Hamburg, Munich, and Frankfurt saw upgrades on the 3.6 GHz spectrum, while rural areas also benefited from faster 5G and 4G connectivity, the operator noted.
Additionally, O2 Telefonica has upgraded hundreds of LTE 4G sites to enable customers to achieve higher surfing speeds. The operator highlighted that the network teams are now getting into the year-end spirit, and the network expansion continues without interruption to offer its over 45 million customers better service.
