Mercury Mtab Air with 7.9 inch display and 3G voice calling launched for Rs 10,999

8 inch tablets are slowly becoming the rage in the tablet arena and every budget manufacturer in the country wants to be a part of the same. Kobian has now launched a 7.9 inch tablet named the Mercury Mtab Air for Rs 10,999 in the budget tablet. Here’s a look at its specs:

  • 7.9 inch capacitive display with a resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels
  • Android 4.2 Jelly Bean
  • 1 GHz dual core Mediatek processor
  • 2MP rear camera and VGA front camera
  • 1GB RAM
  • 8GB internal storage which can be expanded further with the help of a microSD card by another 32GB
  • 3G via SIM card slot, Wi-Fi, Voice calling, Bluetooth and GPS
  • 3,800 mAh battery
  • Dual SIM capability

The Mercury mTAB Air will come with a 1 year warranty and would be available towards the end of February. The tablet has pretty much nothing compelling to make one go in for it other than 3G voice calling abilities. My suggestion, go in for the Nexus 7 32GB Wi-Fi variant which comes for a similar price.

I bought 5″ mercury mobile 1 year back in chennai. I dont any issues till now. But I found 2 of my friends had issues in dual sim (one of the sim slot not detecting the sim, forced to use as single sim mobile) other one had heating issue. Mobile has been send to bangalore service center via chennai service center, still issue remains same.

Performance vise i am happy with mercury, except the CAMERA ( 5MP mercury camera = VGA camera of NOKIA )

Not sure how this 8″ tab will perform

Local Manufacturers must consider the fact that nexus 7 2012 wifi model tablet which is available for just 9k comes with really decent specs and latest as well as stock version of android.I know that lack of 3G and expandable storage are a dampner but still at the end of the day performance matters the most. After all no one would want a 1GB game downloaded over 3G to lag on their tablet and a dual core mediatek processor cant provide much power.
