FCC Grants EchoStar Framework for 5G Network Expansion
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has approved EchoStar's framework for its 5G network buildout. This updated framework allows EchoStar to optimise and enhance its coast-to-coast deployment of what it claims the world’s first cloud-native Open RAN 5G Boost Mobile Network, aiming to improve access for American consumers.

Boost Mobile Coverage Expansion Plans

By the end of this year, EchoStar plans to expand Boost Mobile coverage to 80 percent of the US population—an increase of 30 million more Americans compared to its previous 2023 target of 70 percent. The company will accelerate and expand its final buildout in over 500 license areas, ensuring that even in regions without direct deployment, customers can access Boost Mobile’s coverage through wholesale partnerships with AT&T and T-Mobile.

EchoStar said in addition to expanding coverage, it will introduce a low-cost wireless plan and 5G devices nationwide, making them available to consumers regardless of their geographic location.

Streamlined Construction Timelines

The targeted extensions adopted by the FCC will streamline construction timelines, aligning deployment with EchoStar's 3.45 GHz spectrum licenses and reducing the resources necessary to install infrastructure twice at each cell site/tower, the company said. Small wireless carriers and Tribal nations will also be able to lease EchoStar’s spectrum in areas where the network has not yet been deployed.

"EchoStar is proud of all it has already achieved in deploying a next generation cloud-native Open RAN network that supports 21st century innovations, including artificial intelligence and the many more advancements yet to come." the company said.

EchoStar will deploy 24,000 towers by June 14, 2025—9,000 more towers than its 15,000 tower obligation for 2023.
