Of late, BSNL has been making various changes to its plans in the broadband segment to attract the customers to enrol for its services. In the most recent move, BSNL has reduced the monthly rental and security deposit charges for its Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) ONT Modem.

The reduced prices will be valid starting May 1, 2017, on a pan India basis. Also, the change will apply to both wired and wireless ONT (Optical network terminal) modem. Previously, BSNL used to charge Rs. 150 per month, but from May 1, the company will charge only Rs. 90.

Also, the company has reduced the security deposit amount as well to Rs. 500 from the previous Rs. 1000, which means that half the amount has been removed.

As said earlier, BSNL has been making changes to its broadband plans quite frequently in the recent past. The Government-owned telecom operator two days ago announced that the base speed had been increased to 4Mbps for its broadband plans above Rs. 500. Almost all the broadband plans of BSNL now offer minimum speed of 4Mbps including the famous BBG ULD 1199 plan.

However, there’s a disappointment for the folks who subscribed to the BSNL BB249 plan as the company did not increase the base speed to 4Mbps which means the speed still remains the same at 2Mbps.

Another major announcement made by BSNL in recent times was waiving of installation charges for its FTTH plans. Yes, BSNL starting May 1, 2017, won’t charge any installation fee for customers who enrol in any of the FTTH plans. This change has also been made effective on the pan India basis.

As per the data released by TRAI, BSNL has been adding a good number of broadband subscribers over the last few months. However, the company is still standing at the second position in the broadband department with Airtel still topping the list.
