Samsung is one of the first consumer electronics brands to try its luck with smartwatches. Its first attempt at smartwatches was focussed on features rather than elegance and ease of use. However, the company learnt a lot in the past couple of years. It showcased its first smartwatch with a completely circular display, the Gear S2, during IFA 2015.

Although the Gear S2 was made available in the American, European, and important East Asian markets last year, it wasn't available in India. Earlier this week, there were reports stating that the company might launch finally launch the Gear S2 and the Gear VR in India this month. Now, the company has sent out media invites for the launch event of these wearable devices.

The Gear S2 is a Tizen-based smartwatch that features a 1.2-inch circular Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 360 x 360 pixels, a Gorilla Glass 3 covering, and a rotatable bezel that assists in swiftly navigating through the UI. It is powered by a 1GHz dual-core Exynos 3250 processor, 512MB RAM, 4GB internal storage, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC, and 250mAh battery with wireless charging.

The Gear S2 is equipped with a range of sensors including a heart-rate sensor, an accelerometer, an ambient-light sensor, a barometer, and a gyroscope, which help the smartwatch in keeping track of a user's activity. It comes in three variants – the Samsung Gear S2, the Samsung Gear S2 3G, and the Samsung Gear S2 Classic – but we don't think that Samsung will launch the 3G variant in India since it needs an eSIM, which isn't popular in India.

Samsung Gear VR

The Samsung Gear VR is a high-end virtual reality headset that can be used with Samsung's Galaxy range of smartphones. A compatible smartphone can be docked inside the headset and controlled through an exterior touch surface. The price tags for these devices aren't known yet, but we will let you know the information around it during tomorrow's launch event.
