Vodafone Idea Launches 4G Network in Sri Vijaya Puram Formerly Port Blair
Vodafone Idea (Vi), the third-largest private telecommunications operator in India, today announced the launch of Vi GIGAnet (4G Network) in Sri Vijaya Puram, formerly known as Port Blair. Earlier in September 2024, the Government of India announced its decision to rename the capital of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands from Port Blair to "Sri Vijaya Puram." During the announcement, the government said that while the earlier name had a colonial legacy, Sri Vijaya Puram symbolises the victory achieved in our freedom struggle and the unique role of the A&N Islands in that struggle.

Significance of the 4G Network Launch

Now, Vi has announced the successful launch of its 4G network in the capital of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. "This marks a significant achievement for Vi as we expand our high-speed internet services to the capital of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands," the company said while announcing the launch of its network on Tuesday.

Rich Historical Heritage

The city has a rich history, particularly during the British colonial era. One of the most notable historical sites is the Cellular Jail, a former British prison where many freedom fighters were imprisoned.

Boosting Tourism with High-Speed Connectivity

"Given Port Blair's strategic importance as a tourist destination, the launch of Vi GIGAnet will significantly enhance the experience of both residents and visitors. Please feel free to share this news with your friends and family," said Naveen Singhvi, Cluster Business Head of Vodafone Idea as part of an internal mailer.

The region is largely driven by tourism, with visitors attracted to its beautiful beaches, marine life, and historical sites. With the launch of the network in the region, Vi customers can now enjoy high-speed 4G connectivity during their holiday on the islands.
