Following an array of leaks and rumours, Vivo has finally launched its heavily rumored smartphone. The company announced the Vivo Xplay 5 at an event in China. It will be bringing out two variants for the Xplay 5, these variants will be – Vivo Xplay 5 Elite and Vivo Xplay 5.
The most talked about feature of these smartphone is that they are equipped with 6GB of RAM. Is this Vivo’s way to throw an open challenge at major flagships that come equipped with just 4GB of RAM? Vivo has not yet revealed much info regarding the devices’ international availability yet, but we hope that the company will announce a global roll-out soon.
Breaking down the spec-sheet, the Vivo Xplay 5 Elite is a high-end variant, as it is built entirely of metal. It features a dual-curved 5.43-inch Super AMOLED Quad HD display with Gorilla Glass 4 protection. Powering the Vivo X5 Elite, is a Snapdragon 820 chipset with a whopping 6GB of RAM. The device comes with 128GB of non-expandable internal storage and runs Android 5.1 Lollipop with Vivo’s in-house Funtouch UI with split-screen multitasking support skinned on top.
In terms of photography, the Xplay 5 Elite sports a 16-megapixel primary camera with Sony IMX298 sensor, PDAF, and dual-tone LED flash, along with an 8-megapixel selfie camera. In terms of connectivity, the Xplay 5 Elite supports dual-SIM, 4G LTE, Hi-Fi 3.0 (2*ES9028+OPA1612), and is backed by a 3,600 mAh battery. The Vivo Xplay 5 Elite also comes integrated with a fingerprint scanner placed on the back. The smartphone will be unveiled in China, on March 8 for a price of CNY 4,288 (approx. Rs. 44,277/$655).
