Boldyn Launches 5G Neutral Host Network on NYC’s 42nd Street Shuttle Line
Boldyn Networks (Boldyn) has announced the launch of a 5G wireless network throughout the Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s (MTA) 42nd Street Shuttle line. As a neutral host provider in wireless infrastructure solutions, Boldyn’s launch means that customers of Verizon Wireless, AT&T, and T-Mobile will now have full mobile service in one of the system’s most travelled tunnels.

Boldyn rolls out new 5G infrastructure

Boldyn said the Shuttle is the first line in Manhattan to offer full mobile communication service underground. The 42nd Street Shuttle line is a vital link for more than 36 million riders annually, connecting Times Square to Grand Central for approximately 100,000 daily users.

“This is just the beginning because we are modernising the vital systems necessary for how a city moves and communicates in today’s modern world,” Boldyn Networks US, said.

Impact on Riders and Carriers

Boldyn Networks has deployed a high-capacity, low-latency network for all tier-1 mobile carriers to provide fully connected services to their customers. Even during peak commutes, when up to 12,000 passengers per hour travel on the Shuttle line, riders will experience an enhanced connection on their mobile devices, the official release said.

Additionally, Boldyn noted that the network is designed to provide seamless connectivity for first responders, with bandwidth prioritisation for the public safety community.

The 5G rollout is part of an ongoing initiative to equip the entire New York City Subway system with robust wireless coverage using a neutral host network, thereby improving the transit experience for millions of New Yorkers and visitors. As a neutral host, all wireless carriers can utilise the same infrastructure to serve their consumers on the network deployed by Boldyn, the company explained.
