Viettel Group Inks Deal for Nationwide 5G Deployment in Vietnam

Viettel Inks Deal to Deploy Nationwide 5G in Vietnam
Viettel Group (Viettel) signed a major agreement with Nokia to deploy 5G infrastructure across Vietnam, marking the first nationwide rollout of 5G in the country. The project, set to cover 22 provinces with 5G, will also include the modernisation of Viettel's 4G network. Deployment will begin this year, according to the official release on Monday.

Nationwide 5G Rollout

Under the deal, Nokia will supply equipment from its 5G AirScale portfolio for 2,500 sites, including baseband solutions, Massive MIMO radios, and Remote Radio Head products, all powered by ReefShark technology. Notably, Nokia said this marks the first 5G network in Vietnam to use locally manufactured equipment.

Commenting on the agreement, Viettel Group said, "This important project with our long-term partner Nokia, will play a critical role in advancing Viettel Group's strategy of deploying 5G infrastructure and driving digital transformation in Vietnam. 5G technology supports the development of national digital infrastructure and a digital service ecosystem, creating opportunities for economic growth and increased productivity."

Vietnam's Digital Economy

Through this partnership, Nokia will deploy the first Vietnamese-made 5G solutions in the country, supporting Viettel Group's strategy of advancing 5G infrastructure and digital transformation in Vietnam. Vietnam's digital economy is expected to contribute between 20 percent and 30 percent of GDP by 2030, the joint statement noted.
