Portus Announces Development of 12.8MW Data Center in Hamburg, Germany
European operator Portus Data Centers has announced plans to develop a new data center in Hamburg, Germany. The upcoming facility, known as IPHH4 at the Internet Port Hamburg (IPHH) data centre, is part of the larger Portus Data Centers group. In a LinkedIn update, Portus stated that IPHH4, adjacent to the existing IPHH3 data center at the main Wendenstrasse location, will be fully integrated into the virtual campus that includes data centers IPHH2 and IPHH3.

Construction Timeline

Construction on phase 1 of IPHH4 is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2025, with completion slated for the fourth quarter of 2026. "With the new data center, we are responding to increasing customer demand for powerful and scalable IT infrastructure," IPHH said.

IT Capacity of IPHH4

The data center will offer a total IT capacity of 12.8 MW, divided into two infrastructures of 6.4 MW each. The white space will cover a total of 6,380 sqm, with each of the two buildings providing 3,190 sqm. The grid connection capacity is 20.3 MVA.

Sustainable Design

Designed with a Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) of 1.2, the facility will comply with the new EnEfG requirements and utilise liquid cooling for High Performance Computing (HPC). The data center is being developed as a Tier III+ facility and offers customisable expansion stages, according to its data sheet.

Founded in 1996, IPHH operates two data centers in the east of Hamburg. Last December, Arcus European Infrastructure Fund 3 SCSp (AEIF3) acquired the IPHH data center business on behalf of Portus.
