Hurricane Electric Expands Presence in Greece with New PoP in Thessaloniki
California-based Hurricane Electric, the IPv6-native Internet backbone provider, has announced the launch of a new Point of Presence (PoP) at Synapsecom SNC-1 in Thessaloniki, Greece. This marks the company's second PoP in Thessaloniki and its fourth in Greece, expanding its network in the region, the company said in a recent statement.

Features of Synapsecom SNC-1 Data Center

Synapsecom SNC-1, located at 56 Pontou Street, offers state-of-the-art facilities with 1,000 square meters of space, scalable up to 3,500 square meters. The data center features 24/7 security, redundant power supplies, advanced cooling systems, and connections to major telecommunication centers in the Balkans and Europe.

Benefits of the New PoP for Southern Europe

Hurricane Electric stated that the new PoP will enhance its service offerings in southern Europe by providing improved fault tolerance, load balancing, and congestion management. Customers in the region will have access to Hurricane Electric’s extensive IPv4 and IPv6 network through 100GE, 10GE, and GigE ports, allowing for faster and more reliable internet connectivity.

"We're excited to deploy our second PoP in Thessaloniki," said Hurricane Electric. "This new location will help meet the demand for global high-speed IP transit from local ISPs and enterprises."

Enhanced Connectivity for Customers

The company added that this expansion comes as Thessaloniki continues to grow as a hub for technology and innovation, attracting investments from multinational companies like Cisco, Pfizer, and Deloitte. The city's location and vibrant startup ecosystem make it a key site for Hurricane Electric's ongoing network expansion.

Additionally, customers at the facility are able to exchange IP traffic with Hurricane Electric's global network, which offers over 30,000 BGP sessions with over 10,000 different networks via 310 major exchange points and thousands of customer and private peering ports.
