Telekom Malaysia to Build High-Capacity DWDM Network to Meet Hyperscaler Demand
Telekom Malaysia (TM) has selected Nokia to build a dedicated international optical Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) network, designed to enhance data traffic management and connectivity between Malaysia, Thailand, and Singapore. The DWDM solution will enable TM to support increases in data traffic and meet the growing demand for cloud-based real-time and low-latency services and applications from its hyperscaler customers.

Supporting Hyperscaler Demands

The new network will connect the Malaysia-Thailand and Malaysia-Singapore borders, providing infrastructure to support the rising demand for real-time cloud services and low-latency applications. It will offer hyperconnectivity to the main data centers in Malaysia and a cable landing station to accommodate the exponential growth of data traffic across these countries, the official release said.

Once completed, the new network will help TM expedite its adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to leverage automation for enhanced network performance and operations.

By transmitting signals over a single fiber optic cable, TM will be able to efficiently manage the massive volumes of data generated by hyperscalers, Nokia said.

AI and Automation Integration

Nokia's WaveSuite platform will also be used by TM to optimise network operations and monetise assets through service enablement applications. The project is expected to accelerate TM's AI adoption, leveraging automation for improved network performance.
