According to South Korea's Yonhap news agency, Samsung plans to recall the Galaxy Note 7 smartphones globally after reports that the batteries of the smartphone are getting overheated, causing fire and explode. The company is said to be in talks with carriers like Verizon Wireless to process this recall. It has already recalled the shipments in South Korean market.

The report, citing anonymous sources, claimed that the problem has affected only 0.1% of smartphones sold and this recall of device is to re-check the devices to prevent future hazards. Meanwhile, Samsung has issued a statement that the company is conducting a thorough inspection with its partners. Samsung has also added that the company will share the details soon.

"In response to questions on Galaxy Note7, we are conducting a thorough inspection with our partners," Samsung said. "We will share the findings as soon as possible. Samsung is fully committed to providing the highest quality products to our consumers."

A Samsung spokesperson also confirmed to The Wall Street Journal that the shipments of Galaxy Note 7 have been halted in few markets. The sources have not provided details on the specifics such as the timeline for the potential recall. In India, Galaxy Note 7 is in the pre-order state and may face a delay for those who ordered the device.

This battery fault could become a major blow to Samsung and could affect its earnings momentum. Moreover, Apple is expected to launch its iPhone 7 next week. This will put the company under pressure to contain the issue quickly.
