After announcing 4G tariff for Mumbai circle, Reliance Communications has now announced its 4G data tariff for Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra circles. Unlike Mumbai where RCOM 4G tariff was more than incumbent operators, RCOM has slightly lower 4G tariff in Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra circles. RCOM 4G services is expected to go live at 9.30am today as per update on its website.

The tariff starts at Rs 95/97 for 1GB data for 2 days, while 1GB 28 days pack comes at a cost of Rs 252/259. This is lower than the Rs 297 tariff for 1GB pack in Mumbai and comparable to price of 4G/3G packs from incumbent operators. While 10GB 4G pack comes at a cost of Rs 1349/1399 compared to Rs 1857 in Mumbai.

Surprisingly, when it comes to postpaid 4G data tariff, Maharashtra has higher 4G tariff than Mumbai and its equivalent prepaid offering with 1GB costing Rs 300 with service tax extra. Postpaid tariff for Mumbai and Andhra Pradesh are same and comparable to prepaid tariff, however service tax will be charged extra. Apart form the data packs, RCOM has also published details of special tariff voucher, combo packs and minutes packs available for 4G subscribers in Mumbai circle. The packs are similar to what RCOM currently offers for its 3G/2G subscribers.

The high cost for 4G data tariff can be attributed to heavy spectrum liberalization fees paid by RCOM to department of telecom for liberalizing its CDMA 850MHz spectrum for 4G service. Since RCOM paid highest amount for Mumbai circle, RCOM has priced its 4G data higher than other circles. Due to high cost, RCOM may not be able to attract new customers to its 4G network as incumbent operators have lower or same data tariff for their 3G/4G service.
