YouTube mobile app to soon feature Live Streaming

YouTube is all set to push the live streaming feature on its mobile app. At the VidCon conference in Anaheim, California, YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki announced the upcoming feature. The video-streaming service also promises to equip the live streaming feature with search, recommendations, and playlist options.

In a company blog post, Kurt Wilms, product lead of immersive experiences at YouTube wrote,"YouTube mobile live streaming will be baked right into the core YouTube mobile app. You won't need to open anything else, just hit the big red capture button right there in the corner, take or select a photo to use as a thumbnail, and you can broadcast live to your fans and chat in near real time."

Interestingly, YouTube's live streaming is available since 2011, but it was only exercised for the webcast of the royal wedding of Britain's Prince William and Kate Middleton. Followed in April by the announcement of live streaming of 360-degree videos by broadcasting Coachella music festival in Indio, California.

We think YouTube has got a stiff competition here from Facebook's heavy investment in Live videos. The social-media giant even got a bunch of celebs to use its live video option for impactful promotion. Also, Twitter-owned Periscope has made a headway when it comes to live-streaming. It would be interesting to see how this new feature turns out to be for YouTube.
