Vodafone has hiked the price of a special tariff voucher (STV) in Kolkata. In the circle, the telecom operator has withdrawn the bonus card of Rs. 75 and instead, introduced a new bonus card of Rs. 127. The new bonus card of Rs. 127 will allow the customers to make local calls at 40 p/minute and STD call at 35p/min for 56 days.

The earlier Rs. 75 card used to offer the customers both local and STD calls at 35p/min for 90 days. This implies that the operator has doubled the rate of the bonus card. Vodafone is a market leader in Kolkata with almost 53 lakh customers in the region.

The price revision came after operator’s rivals such as Aircel and Idea stopped offering cheap rates and voice products through USSD special offer menu in the city.

The same revision of price is expected in other circles as well, especially since Vodafone is focused on improving their ARPM/voice realization rate. A rate revision will help the British telecom giant's Indian unit to improve their financials ahead of spectrum auction and high speed 4G data network expansion in nine circles.
