Vodafone expands 3G network in Assam; adds over 1,000 new cell sites across state

Telecom operator Vodafone India, which has invested about Rs 500 crore in its North East circle, has added over 1,000 3G cell sites across Assam in a bid to offer better mobile internet services in the state.

Out of these 1,000 sites, more than 300 sites were set up in Guwahati and the company continues to add more towers. Vodafone, as part of its own 3G network roll-out has now covered key areas in Assam like Guwahati, Tezpur, Jorhat, Silchar, Bongaigaon, Dibrugarh, Nagaon, Tinsukia, Lakhimpur, Nalbari, Digboi, Morigaon, Goalpara, Mangaldoi, Rangia, Duliajan, Margherita, Biswanath Chariali, Barpeta, Sibsagar, Nazira, Moran, Dhekiajuli, Hojai, Lanka, Mariani.

Alok Verma, Business Head- Assam & North East Circle, Vodafone India, said, “With the launch of the our own 3G network, customers across these regions can now avail faster, smarter, better speeds and superior data browsing experience at the existing 3G tariffs.”

“We acquired 3G spectrum in March 2015 auctions and have made significant investments of Rs 500 crores in Assam and North East Circle to provide high speed mobile internet services to our valued customers. We will continue to expand in a phased manner to cover more geography across Assam and North East, thereby bringing in further investments in the region,” he added.

In the circle, Vodafone has also rolled out its own 3G network in Itanagar, Bomdila, Tawang, Along, Basar, Bhalukpong, Dirang, Changlang, Palin & Seppa in Arunachal Pradesh; Kohima & Dimapur in Nagaland; Jowai, Nongpoh, Tura, Shillong & Ladrimbai in Meghalaya; Aizawl in Mizoram; Agartala & Teliamura in Tripura and Imphal in Manipur.

“Initial response from subscribers who have experienced our superfast 3G services has been very positive and encouraging. The new superfast 3G has significantly enhanced the data browsing experience of our customers by providing greater ease in using favorite mobile apps, live video streaming, multimedia messaging services, making seamless video calls, accessing high speed mobile broadband and so on,” Verma added.
