Wi-fi for digitizing rural India: R K Bahuguna

Railtel Corporation of India chairman and managing director R K Bahuguna has said that Wi-fi or a local area wireless technology could be a fourth generation (4G) connection for digitizing rural India at the CEO Roundtable on the Aegis Graham Bell Awards 2014.

Graham Bell Awards is intended to promote innovation in the field of TIME (Telecom, Internet, and Media & Edutainment) and to provide recognition for outstanding contributions. This award is organized with the support of COAI, TCOE and Deloitte as knowledge Partner.

Going ahead, he also said that India needs to develop lot of applications to fuel growth..

Anshoo Gaur, President and head of Amdoc India said that while government of India is talking about smart cities, why not talk about smart villages.

On the other hand, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has been quietly constructing a framework for widespread “Digital villages” initiative. This project aims at providing a host of services to the people of the rural areas swiftly and directly at their doorstep.
