Uninor to Set Up 500 Tower Sites in Gujarat by June, 2013
Uninor, the company that won spectrum last year to offer mobile phones services in six of the 22 telecom services areas is all set to further expand its operations in India. As a part of its expansion plans, the company will be setting up additional 500 tower sites in the Gujarat region by June 2013. As stated by the company, this is the first round of expansion and during the second half of this year Uninor will go for further one more round of expansion in Gujarat. In the 2012 auction, Uninor won spectrum in 6 circles - Uttar Pradesh (East), Uttar Pradesh (West), Bihar, Gujarat, Maharashtra & Goa and Andhra Pradesh for Rs 4,018 crore.
Samsung Offers Free Games Worth Rs. 3000 on its Newly Launched Galaxy Grand Quattro
Banking upon the fame earned by its recent Galaxy Grand, Samsung introduces a new dual-SIM Galaxy Grand Quattro in Indian Markets. Priced at Rs. 17, 290, it is the latest entrant in the Samsung Galaxy Series. As an introductory offer, Samsung is offering a digital wallet of Rs.3000 for 90 days applicable on games. The Galaxy Grand Quattro also comes with a pre-loaded messaging & communication app ‘ChatOn’ along with other applications. It features an 11.9-cm display, a 5MP camera and an internal memory of 8GB.
Telcos should keep a check on pesky SMSes and Unwanted VAS: TRAI
Mobile Users may soon get a relief from unsolicited messages, unwanted activation of VAS services and roaming charges as TRAI chairman, Rahul Khullar met CEOs of mobile companies in a bid to resolve the aforesaid issues (As reported in the Business Line). The telcos have however raised concern over the orders issued by the TRAI. As a result, the telecom regulator will now re-look into the matter and will give its recommendation in next 15-20 days.
In July last year TRAI had directed telecom companies to take consent from the customers before activating any service on their numbers. However, the recent audit by Trai says that over last year more than 2 crore subscriber had lodged their complaints against value added services that were activated without their knowledge or consent.
Apple Woos Students; Offers iPhone 4 for Rs.18, 725
Apple is all set to tempt students with its ‘special student offer’ wherein it is offering iPhone 4 to them at a special price of Rs.18, 725 along with a buyback scheme. Apple is offering iPhone 4 at Rs 1,376 per month for 12 EMIs and Rs 2,752 per month for 6 EMIs. Under the buyback scheme, students can avail a discount of Rs. 7,777 on the purchase of iPhone 4. Recently most handset manufacturers like Samsung. LG and Sony are selling their high-end smartphones with EMI options and Apple can't ignore Indian market now.
Reliance Jio Eyes East; Plans to invest Rs 7000 crore in Eastern States
As reported earlier, Reliance Jio recently unveiled its 4g roll out plans, according to which Kolkata will be among the first few cities to get 4G services by the end of this year. The company will invest Rs 3000 cr in West Bengal and Rs 3000 – Rs 4000 crore in other eastern states in next 2 years. The 4G roll out by Reliance Jio will open doors to around 5,000 jobs across eastern India and also contribute to the growth of TD-LTE across globe.
Mobile data in India nearly doubles in 2012: Study
Nokia Siemens Networks’ MBit Index study reveals a 92% increase in mobile data traffic generated by both 2G and 3G services in India between December 2011 and December 2012. According to the study, each 3G user currently consumes close to 300% more data on an average than a 2G user. The 3G tariff reduction by operators in mid-2012 led to the significant growth in 3G data consumption across the country, with category A circles seeing the maximum impact. NSN also told that without expansion of 3G networks operators can not reach maximum customers and the growth of 3G would be halted.
