Tata Sky has been making some consumer-centric moves over the last few months as the operator is looking to increase its user base and become the top firm in the industry, beating Dish TV. Earlier, Tata Sky has slashed prices of its set-top box by Rs 400, and now, Tata Sky's HD set-top box is available at just Rs 1,499, compared to the older price of Rs 1,800. Tata Sky' SD set-top box is available at Rs 1,399 in the country, right now. On the flip side, Airtel Digital TV is charging Rs 769 for the HD set-top box and Rs 569 for SD set-top box. These are just the set-top box charges from the company and there will be additional installation and engineer charges applicable for every user who chooses a new Tata Sky connection.

Tata Sky New Price Cut on Set-Top Boxes

Previously, the price cut on the Tata Sky set-top boxes was introduced for the two HD and SD variants being offered by the DTH service provider. This price cut reduced the prices of the two models of Tata Sky STBs by Rs 400, and this meant that the SD variant of Tata Sky STB was available for Rs 1,600, whereas the HD variant of the Tata Sky STB was available for Rs 1,800. However, with a new price cut on its set-top boxes, Tata Sky connection has become even more affordable and attractive for the new subscribers planning to choose the operator.

This new price cut on Tata Sky set-top boxes brings down the price of the SD set-top box down to Rs 1,399, whereas the cost of the HD set-top box from Tata Sky has come down to Rs 1,499. This means that Tata Sky has slashed the prices of its SD STB by Rs 200 more and the price of the HD set-top box of Tata Sky has been slashed by around Rs 300.

Tata Sky Gains an Edge Over Other DTH Operators Owing to New Price Cut

It is worth noting that in the past few days, the Tata Sky connection has become a little less attractive for new subscribers as the DTH provider removed multi-TV policy for its customers thus forcing their hands to pay full price for secondary connections. Also, the set-top box prices of Tata Sky were higher than that of other providers like Dish TV, which remains another big competitor of Tata Sky. Keeping this in mind, Tata Sky has likely slashed the prices of its STBs again to make its subscription more attractive for new customers.

It is also interesting to note that Dish TV offers its DishNXT HD STB at the price of Rs 1,590 and its SD variant DishNXT STB at Rs 1,490. Now with this new price cut, the Tata Sky STBs have officially become cheaper than the Dish TV STBs, which was not the case until yesterday. This price difference was one of the reasons why Dish TV was thought to be a more attractive choice for subscribers over Tata Sky, but the new price cut might flip things in favour of Tata Sky and subscribers might choose it over Dish TV.

Airtel Digital TV is Offering HD Set-Top Box at Just Rs 769

In comparison to Tata Sky, Airtel Digital TV, the Digital TV arm of Bharti Airtel has been offering its HD set-top box for just Rs 769, making it the affordable set-top box operator in the country right now. Tata Sky's HD box is available for Rs 1,499, which makes Airtel Digital TV HD STB price even more attractive. Notably, Airtel Digital TV is selling the SD set-top box for Rs 569. Do make a note that engineer charges will be added additionally on top the set-top box purchase price.
