The Mukesh Ambani led telecom operator introduced a host of new services for the subscribers waiting for them. While a lot of people were waiting for the fibre-based broadband services, a lot of people were waiting for an announcement about the TV services from Reliance Jio as well. For these people, Reliance Jio made an announcement for Jio Set-Top Box which would run based on the JioFiber connection. Reliance Jio also conducted a demonstration on the stage showing the world how the set-top box would operate along with its features. Now, although the telecom operator did not show the pricing of this product, it did manage to garner significant interest and traction from the consumers. The major question among the people was how does this service differ from the already existing ones.

Differences Between Reliance Jio Set-Top Box and Other Operators

The major difference between the offering from Reliance Jio and the already existing ones is the entire range of features that Reliance Jio offers through the set-top box. There are similar options out there like Airtel Internet TV, but Jio’s entertainment solution console comes with a wide range of features that the other entertainment solutions do not offer. Also, Reliance Jio has announced that through the means of local cable operators (LCOs) like Hathway Cable and DEN Networks, the consumers will be able to access the channels on their TV as well.

Portfolio of Apps

Not only this, but another major offering from Reliance Jio as per the consumers has been the large portfolio of apps which ships things like live TV, video-on-demand content and more. However, until now, there was no way for Reliance Jio to bring this content properly on the bigger screen. With the Jio set-top box, now the telecom operator will be able to bring this content to the TV screens. Users will be able to enjoy apps like JioSaavn, Jio TV and more.

Gaming, MR and VR Features

Another major feature of Reliance Jio’s set-top box would be gaming, which it will allow in a full-fledged form. In its demonstration, Jio shows the set-top box hosting a game of FIFA 19 and said that the STB would be compatible with all game controllers and it would also bring with gaming companies to bring more games to the platform. In addition to this, there are also going to be MR and VR services as well for the subscribers. Lastly, there is going to be the JioCalll feature which allows video calling with up to four people at the same time through the fast JioFiber connection.

The closest competitor to Reliance Jio’s set-top box in the market is Airtel Internet TV, which comes with Android TV support, and it lacks certain features like VR or MR. The box is priced at Rs 3,499 and currently ships OTT apps and more features which make it worthy of going against Reliance Jio set-top box.
