Reliance Jio Announces JioFiber Packs and JioCall Feature: Everything You Need to Know

Reliance Industries Limited, the parent company of Reliance Jio today held its 42nd Annual General Meeting of shareholders. It was expected that the telecom operator would make major announcements during the Annual General Meeting and it is true. During the announcements, Mukesh Ambani made some significant revelations about Reliance Jio’s current market situation and shared its plan about the future. The Chairman revealed that Reliance Jio currently boasts of 340 million subscribers and continues to add 10 million customers every month. However, there is one functionality which Reliance Jio has put an emphasis on, and it comes with the Jio Set-top Box. The feature that we are talking about is the JioCall feature. Reliance JioCall Service Explained

Reliance Jio announced that it would be introducing a home video calling solution for the Indian households and Reliance Jio subscribers. Using the JioCall feature, the subscribers will be able to connect with people over a video call through their TV screens. Not only this, but Reliance Jio also said that the feature would allow the users to video call with multiple users at one time. The JioCall feature would be powered by the Reliance JioFiber connection which the company is also going to announce in today’s Annual General Meeting.

The announcement of JioCall was also followed by a demonstration of the Reliance Jio Set-Top Box with a TV on the stage. During this demonstration, Reliance Jio tested speeds of its fibre connection during the demonstration, which measured up to 1 Gbps. Also, when tested, the JioCall feature accommodated 8 contacts on screens, meaning that the users of Jio Set-Top Box would be able to video call 8 people at once.

Reliance Industries Limited Chairman, Mukesh Ambani also talked about the empowering of local cable operators (LCOs) which it has done by investing in Multi-System Operators (MSOs) Hathway and GTPL. The telecom operator also revealed that in its consumer broadband business, it boasts of 340 million subscribers and currently it is testing the Jio GigaFiber service in over 5 lakh homes. Additionally, Reliance Jio made some more major announcements while keeping the announcement about Reliance Jio GigaFiber for the end.

Reliance JioFiber Tariffs 

Reliance Jio said that its plans would start at 100 Mbps speed and would go as high as 1 Gbps. The telecom operator announced that it would launch its services commercially on September 5, 2019. The RIL chairman also said that the JioFiber plans would be priced Rs 700 to Rs 10,000 per month, which would suit every budget and every need of the Indian consumer. The company has also claimed that the rates that Jio is providing are 1/10th of the global rates. The home calling feature accompanied by JioFiber would be free. There would also be affordable unlimited international roaming plans starting at Rs 500 per month.

For simplifying the content consumption and purchase, Reliance Jio announced that JioFiber connection would come bundled with most OTT applications. Premium Jio Fiber customers will also be able to watch new movies the same day that they are released on their screens at their homes. Jio is calling this service, first-day-first-show and it will debut in the middle of 2020. Jio is also going to offer a service called Postpaid Plus in the coming days. Reliance Jio has also said that its customer getting a Jio forever plan (annual plan of Jio Fiber) will also be getting a free HD/4K Television along with a Jio Set-Top Box. Further Reliance Jio has also announced blockchain technology implementation, Edge Computing solutions and other software services as well.
