Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) held its Annual General Meet (AGM) earlier today. Mukesh Ambani, Chairman and Managing Director, of Reliance Industries, touched upon several key updates around the digital services under Jio. There were updates about Jio's 5G customers, Jio AirFiber and more.
Jio has been covering good ground when it comes to 5G. As per Mukesh Ambani, Jio has already reached 96% of census towns with 5G. To simplify this, Jio has not really covered each and every corner of these towns but has launched 5G at least in one or more parts of these towns.
Mr Ambani said, "In just nine months, Jio 5G is already present in over 96% of the census towns of our country. And we're on track to cover the entire country by December of this year. This makes Jio 5G the fastest-ever 5G rollout of this scale anywhere in the world."
On top of this, he said that over 85% of the total 5G cells operational in India are in Jio's network. "At our current pace, we are adding one 5G cell to our network every 10 seconds, and we will have nearly one million 5G cells operational in our network by December," Mukesh Ambani said.
Reliance Jio 5G Customers and AirFiber Launch
Reliance Jio has over 50 million 5G customers. The telco is offering free 5G to all of these users. Mr Ambani said that the company is witnessing an increasing trend of high-ARPU, postpaid customers choosing Jio as their preferred network. Further, Jio's 5G rollout is powered by the company's own 100% in-house developed 5G stack.
Mr Ambani also talked about Jio's AirFiber. The service or the product isn't a big mystery. But this time around, Reliance has finally announced when the product will be available for the customers. Mukesh Ambani said that Jio AirFiber will be launched on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi on September 19, 2023.
The company sees an addressable market of 200 million high-paying homes and premises with the arrival of Jio AirFiber.
