Oppo adds R9s and R9s Plus with 16MP cameras to its selfie-centric smartphone series

As successors to R9 and R9 Plus unveiled in March, Oppo is launching R9s and R9s Plus in the market. Like most of the other Oppo smartphones, these two devices are also camera-focused featuring 16MP cameras on both rear and front.

Oppo R9s features a 5.5-inch full HD display with 2.5D curved Gorilla Glass 5 protection. It is powered by a Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 625 processor coupled with Adreno 506 GPU and 4GB RAM. There is an inbuilt storage of 64GB for the smartphone. This can be expanded via its hybrid dual-SIM slot. A 3300mAh battery charges the device and it supports VOOC fast charging.

Oppo R9 Plus, on the other hand, features a 6-inch screen with full-HD resolution. It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 653 SoC paired with 6GB RAM. Similar to R9s, this too comes with 64GB expandable storage and it can be expanded up to 256GB. To support its premium features, the smartphone carries a 4000mAh battery with VOOC fast charging.

Being selfie-centric smartphones, both Oppo R9s and R9s Plus come with some camera-specific features including f/1.7 aperture, 4K video recording, and LED flash. Oppo R9s Plus boasts of a better optical image stabilization. The front shooter of both smartphones also support clicking images with self-gesture.

The devices support dual SIM with the help of hybrid SIM slot. Other connectivity options include 4G, VoLTE, Wi-Fi 2.4GHz and 5GHz, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, A-GPS, NFC, and Micro USB 2.0 port. There is a fingerprint scanner incorporated into the home button. They run on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow OS with Oppo’s own Color OS on top.

Oppo R9s launch date is scheduled to be held on October 28 in China, while R9s Plus is slated to hit the market later in December 2016. Oppo R9s will come with a price tag of 2,799 Yuan (approximately Rs. 28,000) while the R9s Plus will cost 3,499 Yuan (approximately Rs. 35,000). The smartphones will be available in gold, rose gold and black color option.
