Latest Onida Smart TVs Come With Fire TV Experience Built-In and Not Full-Fledged Android TV

At a time when TV manufacturers are going after launching Android TVs in India, Onida, the popular Television brand today announced two new Smart TVs with Amazon’s Fire TV Edition software. The move from Onida comes as a surprise as the Smart TV market in India is growing at a very rapid pace with brands like Xiaomi, Vu, TCL and others dominating the segment. The new Onida Smart TVs come in two variants- 32-inch and 43-inch, and the Fire TV Edition offers several OTT apps like YouTube, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, SonyLIV and so on. Both the TVs will be available for purchase starting December 20, 2019, on Amazon India at a price of Rs 12,999. Onida is calling these TVs as ‘Onida Fire TV Edition,’ as they boot Fire TV OS which could be a forked version of Android TV.

Fire TV Edition Onida Smart TVs Launched in India

Amazon today announced the launch of its much-awaited Fire TV Edition Smart TVs in India in partnership with Onida. The Onida Fire TV Edition has Fire TV experience built-in; The TVs comes with OTT apps like Prime Video, Hotstar, Netflix, YouTube, SonyLIV, ZEE5, SunNXT and so on. For starts, the TVs will be available in 32-inch HD and 43-inch Full HD screen models.

As for the connectivity options, the Onida Fire TV Edition comes with built-in Wi-Fi, three HDMI ports, one USB port and one earphone port. Users can easily connect their Set-Top Boxes, gaming consoles, sound bars and home theatre systems through these ports.

Moving on, the TVs also feature Dolby Digital Plus and DTS TruSurround sound to deliver superior sound experience. The Onida Fire TVs are powered by a quad-core processor and offers a contrast ratio of 1200:1. The screens on these TVs can get up to 300 nits bright.

Because the TVs run Fire TV Edition, they come bundled with Amazon Alexa’s voice assistant as well. In the case of Android TVs, we get to see Google Assistant included, but here Alexa has been deeply integrated. With the included Alexa Voice Remote, users can launch apps, search for favourite movies and TV shows, play music, switch inputs between on-demand and Live TV, control smart home devices and they will also get access to thousands of Alexa skills.

Some of the Alexa voice commands include “Alexa, find comedies”, “Alexa, watch Mirzapur” or “Alexa, play music videos on YouTube”.

Onida Fire TV Edition Prices in India Revealed

The Onida Fire TV Edition Smart TVs will be available for customers at an introductory price of Rs 12,999 for the 32-inch model and Rs 21,999 for 43-inch models with attractive cashbacks, starting December 20, 2019, on Amazon.in.

Since the TVs run Fire TV Edition OS, there will not be any Google Play Store for downloading apps. But we’re expecting the TVs to come with some App Store to download third-party apps for free.
