Nokia 1 Gets Android 9 Pie (Go Edition) Update in India

HMD Global is now pushing Android 9 Pie (Go Edition) update to Nokia 1 smartphone in India. The Nokia 1, which was released last year, arrived with Android Oreo (Go Edition), and it’s the cheapest Android smartphone from HMD Global till date. With this, HMD Global now has the most number of phones running Android 9 Pie software, beating other smartphone brands by a huge margin. Android 9 Pie (Go Edition) was first introduced by Google earlier this year and the first phone to run the software was HMD’s Nokia 1 Plus. For the unaware, the Nokia 1 Plus is the successor to the Nokia 1 which never reached the Indian market. The Nokia 1 Plus was announced at MWC 2019 alongside phones like Nokia 4.2, Nokia 3.2 and Nokia 9 PureView. It will be interesting to see whether HMD Global brings the Nokia 1 Plus to India or not, but for now, the Nokia 1 can check for the Android 9 Pie (Go Edition) update by heading to the System Updates section.

Nokia 1 is the Cheapest Phone to Run Android 9 Pie Software

With the latest update, the Nokia 1 becomes the cheapest phone in India to run Android 9 Pie software, albeit it’s Go Edition. The Nokia 1 recently got a competitor in the form of Xiaomi Redmi Go which also boots Android Oreo (Go Edition), and it may get the Pie update later this year.

“With Nokia 1 getting its very own slice of Pie, we now have a full portfolio of Nokia phones on Android 9 Pie, starting at just sub $80. This changes the industry paradigm – for too long consumers have had to accept older OS versions as the norm on entry-level smartphones. We are living our promise to deliver a phone that will keep getting better over time through the latest experiences and always being up-to-date. And with the Nokia 1 upgrade to Google’s latest OS, fans can get up-to-the-minute software experiences and innovations from Google even in the most affordable segment,” said Juho Sarvikas, CPO, HMD Global.
