Motorola India Begins Android Nougat Soak Test for the Two-Year Old Moto X Play

After Lenovo acquiring Motorola, it’s not the same Motorola which we saw under the leadership of Google. Back then, the product lineup was minimal; software updates were used to roll out quicker than any other OEMs. And now, the scenario is entirely different. The product lineup has expanded, and as a result, software update roll out slowed down.

Motorola Moto X Play

Motorola used to be one vendor whom customers rely on for quicker software updates. The Moto G Series used to be a de-facto option for customers looking for the latest Android version on a tight budget. But now, owners of various Motorola phones are criticising the company for not giving regular software updates.

It’s not like the company is not providing software updates altogether, but the company is delaying them which is making users furious. Having said that, one such phone is the two-year-old Moto X Play, which last received Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update last year. Since then, there are no updates for the phone, whatsoever, sans a VoLTE update.

However, there’s news for the Moto X Play users to cheer about as the company has updated its website stating that the Android Nougat update will be rolling out in coming days. Currently, the update is available as a soak test build and the official over-the-air (OTA) update will roll out in coming weeks.

The new Android 7.1.1 Nougat update will bring numerous new features to the Moto X Play. The traditional quick reply feature of Android Nougat will be present, along with the revamped notification panel, quick settings panel. Also, the update brings the multi-window mode support to the phone. Here’s the official changelog of the update.
