As part of Phase VII expansion, BSNL will be adding around 2000 new 3G BTS in Kerala circle. With this expansion BSNL wants to double its 3G footprint in the circle.

The new 3G sites will be distributed across Kerala as follows, Trivandrum(160),  Kollam(140), Pathanamthitta(135), Alappuzha(135), 160 Kottayam(160), Ernakulam(270), Trichur(170), Palakkad(130), Malappuram(165), Kozhikode(175)and  Kannur(330). The new 3G BTS will be installed at location having high data traffic.

Kerala circle generates the highest earnings for BSNL in India. But has been lagging behind market leader Idea Cellular which has complete 3G coverage across all towns in Kerala. In last auction Vodafone had bagged 3G spectrum in Kerala and is expected to start service by end of the year. With this expansion BSNL aims to have complete 3G coverage across all towns in Kerala.
