Artificial intelligence (AI) and accelerated computing are being used to help solve the world’s greatest challenges. From treating cancer to revolutionising recycling, AI can help solve some of humanity’s most pressing and complex problems, Nvidia stated in a blog post on January 2, 2025. Nvidia‘s computing stack—spanning GPUs, CPUs, DPUs, networking, and software—drives the AI revolution, powering hundreds of millions of devices across every cloud and fueling 75 percent of the world’s TOP500 supercomputers.

As the New Year 2025 begins, the company highlights five examples of how its technologies were applied in the past year:
1. Supporting Surgeons with Tumor Visualization
SimBioSys, an Illinois-based startup, developed TumorSight Viz, a technology that transforms MRI images into detailed 3D models of breast tissue. This helps surgeons better treat breast cancers by providing detailed visualizations of tumours and surrounding tissue, Nvidia said.
2. Reducing Genome Analysis Time and Energy
The Wellcome Sanger Institute uses Nvidia’s accelerated computing to process tens of thousands of cancer genomes annually, providing insights into cancer formation and treatment efficacy. According to Nvidia, its computing solutions significantly reduce the institute’s analysis runtime and energy consumption per genome.
3. Cleaning Up Oceans with Autonomous Boats
Clearbot, an AI-powered sea-cleaning boat created by University of Hong Kong graduates, is transforming water cleanup efforts. Built on the Nvidia Jetson platform, the boat autonomously collects trash from waterways, improving environmental conditions in regions like Hong Kong and India.
