Culina Health Raises USD 7.9 Million to Scale AI-Driven Nutrition Services
Culina Health, a clinical nutrition care digital platform, announced raising USD 7.9 million in a Series A funding round, bringing its total funding to USD 20 million. Spearheaded by Healthworx, the innovation and investment arm of CareFirst, the company says this round builds on the strength of its 117 percent YoY growth, patient engagement, and clinical outcomes. Additional participants in the round include Rethink Impact, Collab Capital, Collide Capital, Vamos Ventures, Tensility Venture Partners, Cake Ventures, and GW Ventures, Culina Health said in a statement on December 19.

Capital to Expand Offerings and AI Integration

Culina Health claims that a 2022 investment made it the first digital nutrition company backed by a strategic payer. With this new capital, Culina Health will expand its offerings to support dietitians and patients, implement new AI platforms to improve care efficiency, and enhance its leadership with key hires.

Digital Platform and Availability

Founded in 2020 by dietitians Vanessa Rissetto and Tamar Samuels, Culina Health claims to offer virtual, evidence-based nutrition care, addressing areas such as weight loss, chronic disease management, and wellness. The company said it partners with major insurers and Medicare, making its digital platform available to 70 percent of the US population.

The Culina Health Method

Culina Health said it maintains more than 1,000 referring providers and has served more than 10,000 patients through the Culina Health Method. This proprietary methodology integrates evidence-based clinical nutrition protocols and non-judgmental, culturally-affirming care to help patients achieve health outcomes, the company said.

Culina Health claims its proprietary method delivers above-industry outcomes, including 100 percent prevention of prediabetes disease progression for patients, significant A1c, cholesterol, and systolic blood pressure reduction, as well as USD 7,000 in cost savings per patient per year, amounting to USD 10.3 billion annual cost savings at scale.

Over 80,000 Telehealth Sessions

According to the official release, to date, Culina Health's team of over 90 registered dietitians has delivered over 80,000 telehealth clinical nutrition sessions. The company accepts all major insurance plans, including Cigna Healthcare, Aetna, BlueCross BlueShield, United Healthcare, and Medicare, and serves patients in all 50 states.
