Lumos Announces USD 246 Million Expansion of Fiber Optic Internet in Illinois
Lumos, a US Fiber Optic Internet and Home Wi-Fi provider, has announced a USD 246 million investment to expand its services to DuPage and Cook Counties in Illinois. The inaugural expansion aims to meet rising digital demand, offering fiber-based internet to homes and businesses.

Job Creation and Economic Growth

Engineering work is already underway, with the expansion set to reach communities in DuPage County such as Naperville, Wheaton, and Bolingbrook, and in Cook County including Schaumburg and Elk Grove Village.

CEO Brian Stading called the expansion a "major milestone," marking Lumos as the first fiber provider in these areas. The project will also create job opportunities and stimulate economic growth in the region.

"We are proud to bring critical infrastructure improvement to the area as the first fiber provider for these communities and anticipate more growth for Lumos throughout the state and region," said Stading.

Focus on Underserved and Unserved Areas

Lumos' expansion is designed to serve underserved and unserved areas, providing long-term benefits to the local communities, the ISP said on Tuesday.

"This expansion to Illinois aims to bring fiber-optic internet to underserved and unserved areas, bolstering economic growth and benefiting the communities in and around DuPage and Cook Counties for generations," said Grace Simrall, Director of Market Development at Lumos.

Communities Set to Benefit from Fiber

Lumos' Fiber Optic Internet will be available in several communities across DuPage and Cook Counties. In DuPage County, the service will reach Naperville, Bolingbrook, Woodridge, Lisle, Wheaton, West Chicago, Winfield, Glen Ellyn, Carol Stream, Glendale Heights, Addison, Wayne, Bloomingdale, Hanover Park, Itasca, and Roselle. In Cook County, the service will extend to Elk Grove Village, Hanover Park, Hoffman Estates, Roselle, and Schaumburg.
