Airtel Gains Nearly 1 Million Subscribers in Mumbai via MNP in Past Year

Airtel has been steadily adding wireless subscribers in Mumbai, with nearly 1 million customers switching to Airtel in the past year through the MNP service. Airtel says it is committed to connecting Mumbai with its high-speed network, and the city was among the first in India where Airtel launched 5G.

Airtel Gains Nearly 1 Million New Subscribers in Mumbai via MNP in Past Year
Bharti Airtel has been steadily adding wireless subscribers across India since January 2023, as reported by TRAI. However, Mumbai, being the financial capital and a major urban centre, takes the spotlight when it comes to subscriber additions. Airtel stated that 945,782 (0.94 million) Mumbaikars have switched to its network within the past year through the Mobile Number Portability (MNP) service, as mentioned on their website. Typically, such specific numbers are not part of the monthly TRAI reports.

Airtel Connecting with Mumbai

According to Airtel, nearly 1 million wireless customers (Prepaid + Postpaid) have used Mobile Number Portability (MNP) to switch to Airtel in the Mumbai Circle during the period from July 1, 2022, to July 31, 2023.

According to the most recent Telecom Subscription data from TRAI as of July 31, 2023, Airtel has 9,986,070 (9.98 million) wireless subscribers in the Mumbai Circle, with an addition of 54,321 new wireless subscribers in July 2023.

Airtel 5G in Mumbai

Airtel emphasises its commitment to connecting Mumbai with its high-speed network. The Mumbai Circle was among the first cities in India where Airtel launched 5G in October 2022, underscoring the circle's strategic importance.

Airtel was the first telecom company in India to report unique 5G subscriber additions. Regarding Mumbai, Airtel announced reaching the milestone of 1 million unique 5G subscribers in March 2023, followed by 2 million unique 5G subscribers in May 2023.

Airtel 5G in India Milestone

Airtel's 5G network is experiencing steady growth across India, and in September, they announced that within one year of launching Airtel 5G Plus, they have garnered over 50 million unique 5G customers on their network. It's likely that the number of 5G users in Mumbai has also increased since the last update.

International Roaming Pack Subscriptions

As reported by TelecomTalk, Bharti Airtel has also witnessed a surge in International Roaming (IR) Pack subscriptions for customers travelling abroad from Mumbai compared to last year, following the launch of refreshed International Roaming Packs.

To meet the growing demand and provide assistance, Airtel has established International Roaming Kiosks at the departure terminals in Mumbai, offering last-minute connectivity solutions for travellers.

Regarding IR pack subscriptions, Airtel said Mumbai has seen a 100 percent increase in subscriptions to popular destinations like the US, UK, and European countries, including France, the Netherlands, Switzerland, and Germany.
