Antel Launches 5G Technology in San Jose, Uruguay
Uruguayan state-owned operator Antel has announced the activation of 5G technology in the city of San Jose de Mayo. The announcement of 5G activation, which took place on Monday, was presided over by Antel's president and vice president at the Antel store in the presence of other local and company officials.

Extending Fiber Optics

The president emphasized the company's efforts to bring fibre optics to various towns and locations, fostering decentralization and accessibility to advanced technology.

According to the statement, fibre optics have been extended to various towns and locations, including Ecilda Paullier, Kiyu, Raigon, Rodriguez, Playa Pascual, Libertad, and Autodromo, where the optical fibre build was completed.

During the 5G launch announcement, Antel's involvement in bringing internet connectivity to public schools in Uruguay was highlighted, dating back to the "Educational Connectivity Program" in 2002.

Investments in Tech Integration

The vice president mentioned that Antel had invested around 5 million dollars in the department over the past two years, focusing on integrating technology across the entire country.

The vice president pointed out the activation of 5G as a step towards providing equal opportunities to all Uruguayans, regardless of their location. "Activation of 5G is one more impulse to the projects that San Jose has been developing, 5G is the future," he said.

The deployment and Activation of 5G was viewed as a pivotal stride towards decentralization, a testament to the government's commitment to balanced development.

Antel 5G Launch

TelecomTalk reported that Antel became the first service provider to offer 5G services in Uruguay. As of July, there are already 320,000 Uruguayans who can connect to 5G, according to the telco. Antel continues its expansion of 5G to more areas, with the most recent locations being Melo on August 1st, Tacuarembo on August 10th, Mercedes (Soriano) on August 14th, and Minas (Lavalleja) on August 17th.
