Telkomsel and Ericsson Renew Partnership to Expand 4G, 5G Networks in Indonesia

Indonesia’s telecommunications provider, Telkomsel, has announced the renewal of its partnership with Ericsson to further expand and strengthen its existing 4G and 5G networks nationwide. Ericsson and Telkomsel announced the renewal of their partnership at the Ericsson Imagine Live event in Jakarta today. The collaboration marks a significant milestone in advancing Indonesia’s digital infrastructure.

Network Expansion for Enhanced Connectivity

Under this renewed partnership, Ericsson will bring its energy-efficient 5G Radio Access Network (RAN) products and solutions to key regions in Indonesia. Ericsson said it has been providing connectivity and has deployed its energy-efficient solutions in the provinces of Aceh, Northern Sumatra, Central and West Sumatra, and the Eastern part of Kalimantan, including the emerging New Capitol City (Nusantara).

Empowering Business Segments

Telkomsel emphasized the significance of this collaboration, stating, “This renewed partnership with Ericsson reflects our commitment to enhancing the latest broadband network technology support available in Indonesia. The upgraded 4G/5G network will play a pivotal role in bolstering Telkomsel’s efforts to develop services tailored for both the business-to-business (B2B) and business-to-consumer (B2C) segments. This includes fostering the growth of the Industry 4.0 ecosystem, strengthening smart cities, and providing enhanced benefits to consumers and diverse industrial sectors across Indonesia.”

Driving Innovation Through 5G

Ericsson said it is powering Telkomsel’s network with its technology, including its ultra-lightweight and energy-efficient Massive MIMO antenna integrated radio AIR 3219. Ericsson stated that this technology not only addresses current demands but also positions Telkomsel to meet future requirements for 5G and Fixed Wireless Access and Convergence (FWA/FMC).
