State-owned telecom operator, BSNL, has announced that it is slashing prices for its unlimited broadband plans and this will go into effect on July 10, 2017. The telecom company had previously come up with its unlimited 2 Mbps DSL broadband plan at Rs. 1,199 and has now halved the price to Rs. 599 per month.

The company, among many others, has faced a slowdown recently due to the emergence of Reliance Jio. These cost cuts by BSNL comes in the face of Reliance Jio’s announcement of its broadband plans for Indian consumers. Airtel too is expanding its presence in the broadband segment to engage a wider audience.

The company is offering 24 hours free calls on Sundays and free calls from landline phones at night as part of the new broadband plan. Along with this, BSNL has also extended the FUP (fair usage policy) limit on its most popular unlimited broadband plan at Rs. 249. Both new as well as existing customers can opt for the revised BB249 plan to enjoy 2 Mbps speed until 5GB of data has used and then the speed comes down to 1 Mbps.

The new set of tariffs also includes a revised Rs. 1,199 scheme mentioned earlier. The company has tweaked the data allowance in this plan to make it more attractive to users plus it also offers free calling 24 hours a day reports keralatelecom.info. Instead of its previous offering of unlimited Internet at 2 Mbps, the 1,199 plan will now give a speed of 4 Mbps up to 50GB. After 50GB of data usage, the speed will be reduced to 2 Mbps.

Similarly, the company has revised several of its plans including its latest Rs. 675 plan that will come with 10GB of data at 4 Mbps speed as opposed to the earlier 5GB. The new Rs. 999 plan will offer 30GB in place of the earlier 20GB of data with an Internet speed of 4 Mbps across India.

BSNL has the widest network of wired broadband in the country, however, it is also the highest charging telecom service company, until now.
