The government has again given additional charge of Chairman and Managing Director of Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) to P K Purwar for three months. Purwar is currently working as Director (Finance) in MTNL. He earlier held the additional charge of the same post between June 2014 and June 2015.

Narendra Kumar Yadav, Member (Services) Department of Telecom, was been given the additional charge of CMD on June 8, 2015 and as per rules he relinquished the post after a year, according to media reports. State-run telecom operator of MTNL has been without a full-time CMD since May 30, 2014, following superannuation of A K Garg.

According to an order issued by Department of Personnel and Training, the Appointments Committee of Cabinet has approved entrustment of additional charge of the post of CMD, MTNL, in favour of Purwar, for a period of three months with effect from June 8. The government has already begun the search for the new CMD of MTNL for tenure of five years. The process has started after a gap of two years.

The government has constituted a search-cum-selection committee under the chairman of Public Enterprises Selection Board for appointment to the post of the CMD on deputation basis for a period of five years, an earlier notice said.
