Lenovo has finally revealed the availability of its recently launched Moto Z smartphone in India. The device is most likely to be up for sale sometime in September-October this year. Of course, the Moto Mods accessories will always be up for purchase along with the Moto Z. The announcement Moto Z's India availability was made by Aymar de Lencquesaing, Senior Vice President and Chairman for Motorola and Lenovo.
Interestingly, Lenovo also has plans to venture into offline sales. Until now, the company was selling its smartphones through online-only model in India.
To recap, the Moto Z features a 5.5-inch Quad HD AMOLED display and a fingerprint scanner embedded into the home button. The device is embodied in metal and is surprisingly thin at 5.2mm. It is powered by a 2.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor paired with 4GB of RAM. It bears 32GB/64GB of internal storage, which is expandable up to 2TB via microSD card. Interestingly, the device is made up of “aircraft-grade aluminum and stainless steel”.
Moto Mods is the major highlight for these smartphones. These are the snap-on modular accessories, which stick to the back panel of the device with the help of 12 “magical pins” on the rear of these devices. Moto Mods include SoundBoost Mod, PowerPack Mod, and Insta-Share Mod. Most interesting Mod is the Insta-Share Mod, which is a mini projector that can turn the Moto Z smartphone into a 70-inch projector with a 90-degree projection angle. The SoundBoost Mod is made in partnership with JBL, it adds speakers to the rear of the device and also provides added battery backup of 1000mAh. Lastly, the PowerPack Mod is for extended 2200mAh of battery backup for the device. These Mods are most likely retail anywhere between USD 50 to USD 100 (approximately between Rs. 3,400 to Rs. 6,700).
