MWC 2016: OPPO launches world’s first sensor-based image stabilizer and enhanced VOOC Flash Charge for smartphones

The smartphone brand OPPO has unveiled two new smartphone technologies at the Mobile World Congress 2016. Named as SmartSensor Image Stabilization, one is a sensor-based, pixel-level optical image stabilizer that enables the users “take great photos anytime and anywhere”.

The traditional optical image stabilization technology is lens-based and can only correct for vibrations on two axes of motions, the pitch axis, and yaw axis. It’s on the roll axis that the shaking mostly takes place during photography and the lens-based technology is incapable of correcting it. OPPO solved this problem through SmartSensor Image Stabilization. This sensor-based image stabilizer technology is capable of correcting photos on the third axis of motion – the roll.

Also, unlike the most sensor-based image stabilizers which are large in size, OPPO’s SmartSensor Image Stabilization is the smallest image stabilizer in the world. Besides, it reduces power consumption to as low as 10 milliwatts, around 50x less than the power consumed by lens-based sensors.

Regarding the precision, SmartSensor remains to a vibration of just 0.3?m, the accurate. The precision provided by the lens-based is between 3 and 5 ?m. OPPO’s stabilizer promises clear-cut images even during low-light conditions.

Another technology revealed by OPPO at MWC 2016 is Super VOOC Flash Charge, providing users full-charge in their devices in 15 minutes. This is an improved version of OPPO’s VOOC Flash Charge introduced in 2014. The technology which is used by 18 million customers worldwide is capable of producing two hours of talk time after five minutes of charging.

However, super VOOC Flash Charge provides the user 10 hours of talk time in five minutes. It would fill a 2,500mAh battery in 15 minutes. The heating problem also does not exist as it uses a 5V low-voltage pulse-charge algorithm, ensuring a low-temperature charge that’s safe for the battery. This makes it safer for the user to use the phone while charging, a functionality that differentiates it.
