Along with three new smartphones – Microsoft Lumia 550, Microsoft Lumia 950, and Microsoft Lumia 950 XL – and Windows 10 Mobile, Microsoft had also announced that it will release the latest smartphone operating system to older Lumia devices sometime in December 2015. However, December is half past now, and some Windows Mobile enthusiasts were wonder if the update will be released this month as promised. To their horror, the company seems to have postponed the release date of the update to sometime in Q1 2016.

Microsoft-confirms-flagship-Windows-10-smartphone-for-later-this-year

According to ZDNet, Microsoft said this in a statement:

"This November we introduced Windows 10 to phones including brand new features such as Continuum and Universal Windows Apps with the introduction of the Lumia 950 and 950 XL. The Windows 10 Mobile upgrade will begin rolling out early next year to select existing Windows 8 and 8.1 phones."

There's no information about the reasons for the delay or when exactly the update will be released in the first quarter of the coming year. Moreover, there's no clear message from the company about which devices would receive the update. However, The company did say that 8GB of internal storage is necessary for the upgrade. Considering that the the Lumia 550 Dual SIM, which was launched in India yesterday are running Windows 10 Mobile without any issues, devices with a better chipset like the Snapdragon 400 and the Snapdragon 800 should definitely be updated to the latest version of Windows.

It is a shame to notice that some Android smartphones like the LG G4 and the Motorola Moto X Style are receiving Android 6.0 updates faster than Microsoft devices are receiving Windows 10 Mobile. Especially since it was considered that Microsoft's smartphone operating system is more efficient than Android, and that Microsoft's tighter control on its mobile platform means faster and consistent updates for smartphones. What do you think about the condition of Windows-powered smartphones?
