Airtel says portability within 24 hours not possible due to regulatory requirements

Airtel is educating its customers via social media citing the porting can't be done in 24 hours and not only that Airtel is also offering free incoming to customers for 4-7 days as well once they generate the porting code.

Airtel has tweeted about this from their official handle yesterday. It seems to be a customer centric approach. As Airtel claims that the numbers can be ported within a span of 24 hours, but now due to regulatory requirement, it will take minimum 4 to 7 days for porting a number from one circle/service provider to another.

For porting, a subscriber needs to generate UPC code by sending an SMS ‘PORT to 1900. After which, the subscriber is expected to walk-in to the nearest Airtel store in the visiting state and fill a subscriber enrollment form. Documents like Photo ID, Address proof, one passport sized photo, Porting form and Form 60/Pan card too need to be presented along with the form for porting. It will take 4 to 7 days, excluding Sundays and National Holidays for porting to occur, which means it is more than a week for the process to complete.

How do you look at this move from Airtel do let us know via comments.
