Exclusive: Reliance starts offering free 10 minutes of talktime for customers experiencing call drop

In a major move, the Reliance Communication has started compensating for the call drop phenomena experiencing by the customers. The service provider is giving 10 minutes free for customers experiencing call drop. However the free talk time is limited to reliance to reliance calls only.

Call drop menace in India is posing trouble to the mobile phone subscribers and the regulatory body, TRAI has announced issuing new set of service quality benchmarks soon. Non-adherence to the TRAI regulations may lead to stricter penal action against the mobile operators. Earlier this month, Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said Vodafone and Aircel are not meeting some benchmarks for call drops in Delhi whereas Airtel and state-run MTNL are within the limits.

Though the Indian service providers has not yet come up with solution to compensate with the call drop, the counterparts in neighbouring Bangladesh has launched it much earlier. Grameenphone, the leading service provider in Bangladesh is giving one minute free call for every call drop.

Grameenphone, with the highest rate of call drops in Bangladesh, came up with this offer after the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission toughened rules on quality of service, including setting a limit for call drops at two per cent, with stiff fines for violations. Banglalink, the country’s second largest mobile operator, has followed suit with its ‘Minute back on call drop’ offer.
