MTS the only pure play CDMA operator has hiked the postpaid tariff of Mblaze ultra wifi in Tamil Nadu circle. The Rs.999 postpaid voucher which used to initially offer 40GB data (20GB day + 20GB night) now only offers 24GB data (12GB day + 12GB night).
The 20BG day + 20GB night voucher now costs Rs.1299. This implies that MTS has cut down the data offering on 999 pack by 40% and increased the price of the 40GB pack by 33%.

MTS had not participated in the recent auction and has not spent additionally on acquiring new spectrum, it remains unclear as to why it has decided to hike its data tariffs. Nearly 50% of MTS’s total revenue is generated from its data offerings.

It remains to be seen how this move will work for MTS when the 3G operators reduce the price of 3G data and competition increases. MTS has declared that they will be looking forward to spectrum sharing and trading guidelines to decide their further course of growth in India.
