The Android 5.0 Lollipop-based release of Cyanogen OS, the Cyanogen OS 12 will usher in a host of changes along with featuring a brand new default email app, Boxer.

Cyanogen has always been vocal about its intention to “take away Android from Google” and one of the biggest challenges faced by the venture-funded start up is to provide persuasive alternatives to many of Google’s popular services such as Maps, Gmail and even the Play Store. To this end, the firm has constantly been partnering with companies looking to integrate their services into the Cyanogen environment and Boxer is the latest in a slew of such partnerships. Some of the apps which have been integrated into Cyanogen are Baton by Nextbit and Swiftkey keyboard. The company has been quite active and has even announced a partnership with Qualcomm last week while also securing investments from various sources including Microsoft.

Cyanogen Boxer Email App

The new Boxer email app will come with all the features which are currently offered to its premium users ($14.99 in-app purchase) while replacing the current Email app which has been developed by the Cyanogen community. The new app will allow extensive customization options, integrated task management and integration with a host of services such as Dropbox, Evernote, etc. right into the inbox. The features which are currently being offered to Boxer premium users such as unlimited accounts, Exchange support, custom signatures and quick replies will also be bundled for the new Cyanogen OS.

The devices which are likely to get the Cyanogen 12 OTA such as the OnePlus One, Alcatel OneTouch Hero2+ and Yureka Yu will get the new Boxer Email app while new devices which will ship with the Cyanogen OS 12 will be preloaded with it.
