airtel-logoAirtel, the country’s largest private operator has been in the middle of quite a lot of controversy since it announced it plans on charging for VoIP services. But it took back the move after that and resumed providing regular services after that. Now the company has been struck by a systemic failure of its network in Hyderabad and, as a result, its cellular services have not been available since 6 a.m. today.

At the time of writing this news, the same situation persisted. Initial enquiries into the issue revealed that the company was undertaking system integration and network upgradation on cell sites ahead of announcing its 4G services rollout reports The Hindu.

The issue that has come up is rare and as per the industry experts, Airtel’s network will be up and running pretty soon. But some of the questions, that such disruptions raise, are that will the consumers be charged for this time period too (many users buy daily specific plans)? It surely does raise the question that why should a person pay if he/she didn’t get the service they were paying for.

Update : “A technical downtime has affected our network in certain regions of Hyderabad city resulting in partial disruption of services. During this period our customers had limited access to mobile services in parts of the city. The network has been restored and is fully operational now. We deeply regret the inconvenience caused to our valued customers”. Airtel Spokesperson
