Vodafone IndiaDid you know that the government might just have access to your telecom consumption? Every call you make, every website you visit on your phone or be it a SMS that you may send is being monitored by the governments world over. Vodafone has just revealed that some of the governments are monitoring each and every move of the telecom consumption in their countries.

Vodafone has its operations in 29 countries and India is one of them. Vodafone has just released a "Disclosure Report" which states that there are some countries where the governments need a legal notice for monitoring all this, but there are some where the governments do not need a legal notice to do so and they monitor the users silently.

"In a small number of countries the law dictates that specific agencies and authorities must have direct access to an operator's network, bypassing any form of operational control over lawful interception on the part of the operator," is what Vodafone said.  It could not disclose the details of the nations because it is unlawful to do so.

Many may argue that it is an intrusion of privacy while many others might say that it is for the security of the nation. Where to draw a line and where not is the big question. Vodafone wants to put an end to the “direct access to an operator’s communications infrastructure without a lawful mandate.” And we believe the other operators which are silent would agree too.
