Xiaomi has been teasing the launch of its Desh Ka Smartphone for the entire last week. Finally, the company has launched the smartphone officially, and it’s none other than the Redmi 5A smartphone launched back in China in October 2017. The Redmi 5A is the successor to the Redmi 4A smartphone, which was launched in India back in March 2017.
The highlight of the Redmi 5A is it’s ‘Made in India,’ and the company stated that all the Redmi 5A are made in the country itself. The Redmi 5A comes in two variants- one with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage, and the other one with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage.

The 2GB+16GB storage variant is priced at Rs 5,999, and the 3GB+32GB variant is priced at Rs 6,999. However, for the first five million buyers, Xiaomi is offering a flat Rs 1,000 discount on the Redmi 5A, eventually making the price of the smartphone starting at Rs 4,999.

The Xiaomi Redmi 5A has all the specifications similar to the Redmi 4A. It flaunts the same 5-inch display with a resolution of 720×1280 pixels, which further extends to a pixel density of 296 PPI. It is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 SoC, mated with 2GB/3GB of RAM and 16GB/32GB of internal storage. The best part is the dedicated microSD card slot. Yes, you heard it right. Xiaomi has managed to add a dedicated microSD card slot in the smartphone.
Cameras in the Redmi 5A include a 13MP rear camera with f/2.2 aperture, autofocus, and LED flash. Up front, you get a 5MP selfie camera. Connectivity options in the smartphone include 4G LTE, VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth, GPS, and a micro USB port for charging and data transfer.
Lastly, the Redmi 5A boots Android Nougat based MIUI 9 out of the box, and it even comes with an IR blaster. This entire package is backed by a 3000mAh battery, which is a downgrade compared to the 3120mAh battery unit present on the Redmi 4A. Xiaomi claims an 8-day standby time though.

The Xiaomi Redmi 5A will be available starting December 7 on Mi.com and Flipkart. Also, the company promised to make it available in all the major retail stores and Mi Homes across the country. The device will be available in Dark Grey, Gold and Rose Gold colour options.
