As speculated earlier, this smartphone is powered by a MediaTek processor and is sporting stock Android UI. Other Android One smartphones from Micromax and Karbonn might have similar set of hardware specifications. Also, Google might have made it mandatory to include the ‘Android One‘ term on the device and in the name of the device, making its name quite a mouthful.

*Apart from the specs what’s more disturbing is the fact that almost all Android One handsets are ending up to be online exclusives. The Micromax devices is exclusive to Amazon. The Karbonn device is exclusive to Snapdeal and even the the Spice device “might” be exclusive to Flipkart. I don’t know why Google is allowing or rather taking the online exclusive route for these devices when the entire goal of the Android One initiative was to produce low cost nexus like devices which people would prefer against other cheap devices which do not have Google services pre installed and do not… Read more »

Its true that retail store availability in Tier 2 cities is most important point. Might be the producers like MMX will persuade Google to support the retail option. Hope best.

If these phones are only available online…android one is going to fail.I will wait for MMX response..hope they will come with better specs at lower price just like they surprised with Unite2.I hope MMX prices it below 6k.

Spice has overpriced this & 100% sure that karbonn does the same.I agree redmi 1s is superb, but getting it is a distant dream & you don’t know when they will stop it (just like mi3)

*These phones do not even come with best of specs. Phones from Xiaomi and Asus easily beat them. *The thing is these phones are not serving their purpose of reducing fragmentation. The main place where major fragmentation comes from is the low end of the smartphone market where smartphones running on Ginger Bread are still selling like hot cakes that’s why is Ginger Bread so reluctant when it comes to losing market share. In fact it actually gained some % when last month Google released its OS market share statement. Its that category which Google needs to attack to reduce fragmentation… Read more »
