Opera Mini for iPhone Crosses One Million Downloads Worldwide

Opera Software ASA, the Norwegian Mobile Browser firm announced that its Opera Mini was downloaded on Apple iphones, more than one million times in its first day of availability. Opera Mini is currently the number one iPhone app in the 22 featured Apple App Stores on their site.

The Opera Mini browser promises up to six times faster download speeds than Apple’s own browser. It also promises to cut data traffic by up to 90 percent. One big advantage Opera Mini has over Safari is any video is supported, even Flash on sites like YouTube. This is because the video is rendered on the server and sent to the device.

According to Apple’s download count, Opera Mini has been added to 1,023,380 Apple devices. Opera Mini is the world’s most popular browser that brings the Web to nearly any mobile phone. Opera submitted its browser to Apple on March 23, following the unveiling of Opera on iPhone during the Mobile World Congress, CTIA and SXSW. Initial previews of the browser garnered rave reviews, indicating that Opera Mini delivers up to six times the speed, especially on congested networks, and significant Web-page compression to keep roaming and pay-per-MB costs at a minimum.

With a simple, easy-to-use interface, Opera Mini offers a desktop-like Web browsing experience on a mobile phone, with favorite features such as Speed Dial, tabbed browsing, password manager and bookmarks. With Opera Mini optimized for iPhone, more people will be able to get a PC-like browsing experience on their mobile handsets.

Apple said ‘Yes’ and iPhone users around the world said ‘Yes, please‘ : Opera

It is hard to believe that Jobs accepted OperaMini to his store… But it is a really good decision for both apple and its users too…
